One More Bridge to Luxury
You will cross many rivers as you cycle through the Heaphy track and the Kahurangi Ranges but none will be as rewarding as the Karamea river itself, where, upon the bank overlooking the Karamea gorge, you can dine on exquisite cuisine and lay your tired bones in the finest of chalet accommodation.
Riverstone Karamea – Bar, Restaurant and Chalet Accommodation is ready for those intrepid Heaphy mountain bikers who can afford themselves the luxury of pulling up on the riverside and having their needs catered for in the most stylish, yet practical, fashion.
The stand-out top priority among Heaphy bikers is a hot shower and here at Riverstone, our high pressure system will wash away your exertions and cleanse your winter-weary skin. Proud owner, head chef and chief of the welcome party, Marg Brownlie emphasises the bike friendly facilities at Riverstone – ‘Good nutrition is key after, or before, a back-country cycle and the Riverstone menu will leave you content and energised. Bikers are also welcome to use our garage space for bike repair and maintenance. We have already seen the condition of bikes coming off the track and have installed a power washer to help bring them back to their best.’
Location wise, you could well be nestled in the depths of the Kahurangi Ranges as you gaze out your double-glazed chalet window. On a clear evening you can count the trout rising in the honey toned Karamea river and allow your eyes to drift out to sea upon a diamond tide. The aroma of fresh herbs on the mountain air serves as a call to dinner, and the choice of seating in our spacious, yet cosy restaurant, allows you to dine by sun-set, moon-rise or fire-side.
Whether you and your gathering are about to head off on your Heaphy spin or have already conquered the rugged pass, Riverstone Karamea, has no equal, on either side of the Heaphy, for quality, luxury and style.
